Backend Developer

PAY TV is a priority business area within the Telia Group, and the company is investing significant resources into the development of next-generation streaming solutions. If you're interested in working on a product with immense potential, this is the place to be. Your work will directly impact over one million customers!

As a Backend Developer you will…

…work on a large platform, developing new functionalities within a microservices architecture, while continuously refactoring older parts of the platform. Our apps run on all major device platforms, including mobile, PCs, tablets, Apple TV, and Chromecast. We serve millions of customers across the Nordics through our flagship brand, Telia Play.

You will build robust backend microservices, working closely with our product owners and other teams to ensure our customers receive the best-in-class service. You will assist in our transition from a private cloud to AWS, not just porting systems but optimizing them to run on lighter technology stacks such as AWS Lambda, the Serverless framework, and Node.js. Your focus will be on writing well-tested and maintainable code that serves millions of our customers. You will help spread the engineering vision within your team, participate in product planning, and mentor junior engineers as they take on more technical responsibilities. You will drive improvements in product and code quality, security, and performance across the team, while also helping to establish and maintain development standards and practices.

Your team will be playing key role in accomplishing transformation of our content integration workflows in TeliaPlay service. HBO, Showtime, Marvel, Disney… sound familiar? No, you will not need to watch legendary Iron Man or latest Matrix Resurrections (although you can), but you will be working in team that deals every day with backend integrations of these media production giants. You will help us to fulfill our team’s greatest mission: relieve our customers from subscription fatigue and a flood of different apps by offering highest quality content from one hand.

Who we’re looking for

You should have experience in Typescript backend development, with a basic knowledge of and/or willingness to learn Python or Rust. Familiarity with AWS, Terraform, and GitOps concepts would be an advantage, as our aim is to be a cloud-native development team.

We predominantly write in TypeScript (with several services using Kotlin and Rust) and work with modern frameworks and tools such as React, Serverless, GraphQL. AWS is our platform of choice, and most of our new services are deployed using Lambdas and ECS. We're not GUI-console clickers, so expect to deploy services with Terraform and GitHub Actions. Most of our components are being transitioned to EKS, so Kubernetes skills will be highly valued moving forward.

(Monthly salary range for this position: 3522 - 5284 EUR before tax deduction).

We are more than a workplace

Join our inclusive team and collaborate with over 15,000 talented colleagues from around the globe.
