Johnson Matthey IT (JM IT) is Johnson Matthey’s global IT function responsible for ensuring that our IT capabilities are not only able to support and integrate technologies but can also offer insight into future IT tools that could provide us with a competitive edge and improved operating efficiencies.

We’re seeking a Senior SecDevOps Engineer to lead the strategic integration of security into our software delivery lifecycle. This is a senior-level role focused on embedding scalable, automated security controls across cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and application architecture. You’ll play a critical role in defining and driving our SecDevOps roadmap, aligning with engineering leadership and risk stakeholders to protect the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of our systems at scale.

Your responsibilities:

  • Drive automation-first initiatives across infrastructure provisioning, deployments, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Establish best practices for cloud-native platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, serverless, microservices) including observability, performance, cost optimization, and governance.
  • Proactively reduce organizational risk by embedding resilience, compliance, and security controls into infrastructure, pipelines, and workflows.
  • Serve as the technical authority for DevOps and platform reliability, contributing to architecture reviews, operational readiness, and incident management.
  • Enable developers through scaffolding, self-service platforms, and golden paths (e.g., Backstage, internal developer portals), improving productivity while maintaining standards.
  • Partner with Security Operations and Vulnerability Management to integrate SecDevOps practices into pipelines, tooling, and infrastructure.
  • Mentor engineers across teams on DevOps practices, fostering a culture of ownership, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to balance speed, security, reliability, and cost efficiency in system design and operations.
  • Refine incident response and postmortem processes, ensuring lessons learned improve resilience, tooling, and processes.

Requirements for the role:

  • 5+ years in DevOps, Platform, or Infrastructure Engineering, including experience in a lead or senior role.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Argo, etc.) and pipeline security.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling cloud-native platforms at enterprise scale (ideally Azure)

  • Expert in Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation) and Kubernetes ecosystem (Helm, Operators, GitOps).

  • Proficient in at least one scripting or programming language (Python, Go, Bash, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, etc.) and automation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with developer enablement tooling such as Backstage, scaffolding frameworks, and internal developer platforms.
  • Familiarity with FinOps and cost optimization in cloud environments.
  • Exposure to security tooling (e.g. Wiz, Snyk, Trivy, Checkov, Vault, Prisma, SonarQube, etc.) and compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR).

What we offer:

We make sure salaries are fair, competitive and aligned to individual roles, experience and responsibilities. For this position we offer annual salary starting from 47,500 to 71,000 EUR (gross). We are also supportive of hybrid and flexible working and where applicable, offer life, medical and other benefits that support our employees’ financial and physical wellbeing, such as:
